If you’re looking for an etsy product description template, you’ve come to the right place! I’ll be sharing etsy product description examples, templates, and everything you need to know to take your listings and sales to the next level!
As a professional marketer, I can confidently tell you Etsy product descriptions have two jobs.
1) Get your product to appear in search results.
2) Convince people to buy!
Sounds simple enough right?
Well, showing up in search results takes advanced research and keyword placement. And convincing people to buy comes down to the art of copywriting!
In this post, we’ll show you how to accomplish both of these successfully! Along with some examples and templates to get you started!
Why Etsy Product Descriptions are so important?
Your product description is one of the most important aspects of your listing! Right next to your images, and product title, the description is a vital aspect of your listing that impacts your listing discoverability (by Etsy search engines) and conversion rate (how many of your viewers will buy it).
Remember, descriptions have two main purposes. 1) Get your product to appear in search results. And 2) Convince people to buy!
Because Etsy considers description text as a factor in their search results. And most customers will read through a description before making a purchase decision!
So it’s incredibly important to spend quality time on your descriptions.
How does Etsy SEO work?
Etsy SEO, or Search Engine optimization, is the process of optimizing your product listing to appear in search results. Much like the google “search engine”, Etsy has it’s own search engine that runs every time someone visits Etsy.com and searches for something.
As a website, Etsy’s goal is to give their visitors the best results for what they are searching for. For example, if a Etsy.com visitor searches for the “blue dog bed” keyword, the etsy search engine will return the best results for this search.
As a seller, if you sell blue dog beds, you need to understand what customers search (by doing the keyword research) and then include those keywords in your listing title, description and tags!
What to include in Etsy Product Descriptions?
So you may be wondering, what should I include in my product descriptions?
Here are a few things!
1) Keywords related to your ideal search terms
As I mentioned in the previous section, you’re going to want to do keyword research to find out what your customers will search for. I recommend making a list before you start your description. THen write your description, and sprinkle these keywords in organically. Make sure it’s readable and fits into your description & sentences smoothly! See the description examples below for more
2) A strong (adjective loaded) introduction
The first paragraph of your description is the most important! Grab the reader’s attention with a strong hook.
Here are some examples
“This adorable off-white and black colored Dog Bed Cover comes in several sizes ranging from XS to XL!”
“Cute hand-built irregular porcelain mug. It has a delicate gold luster detail and a “yummy” color combination of colored clays.”
“Countdown to Christmas with our Advent Calendar Christmas Candle!”
3) Technical details about the product
One of the common reasons will leave your listing is because you leave their questions unanswered! Be sure to avoid this by answering any specific questions about the product that your customer may have (sizing, material, how to care/handle, etc).
I recommend creating a list of all questions your customers may have before buying, and then embed the answers within your product descriptions. If you’re having a hard time come up with these, try searching through customer messages/questions, or browse other descriptions in your niche for inspiration.
4) A call to action at the end!
Be sure to include a strong offer and “call to action” in your description, ideally at the end! A call to action is a marketing term or phrase that’s used to tell a visitor exactly what action to take and how to take it. It can be something as simple as two words (“Buy Now”) or a full sentence like (“Place your order now or see more of our products at etsy.com/yourshop”). I recommend using a full sentence call to action and include links to your Etsy shop or social media channels.
Etsy Product Description Examples
Now, let’s get to the Etsy product description examples.
This long form description, from an Etsy top-seller, is one of the best i’ve seen in a while! While it’s a bit long in length, it definitely confirms the fact that this seller knows how to sell! Take a look.
What I like about this product description example:
-Her strong sales focused copy (with discount code) and keywords at the beginning are great!
-The nice separators and paragraph spacing make it super easy to read!
-The writer is creative with spacing and readability (see shipping section for example) even though etsy product descriptions dont allow text formatting!
What could be improved with this product description example::
-Her ending call to action could be stronger. Perhaps something like “This t-shirt goes great with our pants! Link here”
